Hakima Athuai
Hakima’s early life was fraught with numerous uncertainties and challenges. Her first 10 years in the Kakuma refugee camp were the only life experiences that she knew, until she relocated to her home country of South Sudan.
What would otherwise seem like stability in the life of a young girl became another source of confusion and fear. Hakima, like many other girls in her clan was being consorted as a child bride.
Her ambitions and goals were in defiance of the trauma she endured in her early life and in 2018, she was scouted and then signed by Isis Models. She has since gone on to sign for international modelling agencies like Metropolitan Management Paris and New Icon New York as well as working for world renowned brands such as Givenchy, Tom Brown and Rick Owens.
